A man was arrested Friday afternoon near Elko, B.C., after allegedly running in and out of traffic while carrying a handgun.
Elk Valley Regional RCMP responded around 1:50 p.m. on June 6 to reports of a shirtless man in shorts and one shoe behaving erratically near the Caithness Rest Area on Highway 3.
Witnesses told police the man was holding what appeared to be a gun while moving through traffic.
Officers quickly located the man nearby who matched the description and was identified by witnesses at the scene.
He was then arrested without incident.
A police dog team from Cranbrook assisted with an article search, locating a loaded revolver and the man’s missing shoe next to it.
The man was held in custody and appeared for a bail hearing on Saturday morning.
Police thanked those who reported the incident, noting their quick action helped prevent what could have been a much more serious outcome.
RCMP are seeking additional witnesses or dash camera footage of the incident.
