Sparwood Council is weighing costs for two local initiatives that could improve transportation and recreation in the community, following decisions made at the June 3, 2025 regular meeting.
Local resident Arshdeep Syan presented a proposal to launch a new taxi service in Sparwood, requesting a Letter of Support for his application to the Passenger Transportation Board.
Council directed staff to draft the letter for review, signalling potential support for expanded local transportation.
Council also approved a $1,959 in-kind funding request from the Sparwood Mixed Slow Pitch League to cover field rental fees for its 2025 season.
The support comes from the District’s Community Funding and Support budget and continues a pattern of annual assistance to the league, which runs from May to July.
With the funding approved, $13,319 remains in the 2025 Category 2 budget.
In other business, Council approved the 2024 Statement of Financial Information (SOFI), a provincially mandated report under the Financial Information Act.
The document outlines annual compensation for elected officials and staff, as well as payments to suppliers and grants issued by the District.
The final version will be published online.
