The Province of British Columbia is taking steps to remove several illegally placed docks adjacent to Moyie Lake Access, a public park managed by the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) at the southwest end of Moyie Lake.
“Over the years, a number of trespass docks have been placed along the shoreline of Moyie Lake Access,” says Jamie Davies, RDEK Recreation and Control Services Supervisor.
“Following a 30-day notice period, the Province will seize any remaining illegal docks.”
Starting as early as this week, Natural Resource Officers will begin issuing Trespass Notices on docks that are in violation.
Dock owners will have 30 days to remove the docks before the Province proceeds with enforcement.
This enforcement applies only to docks with Moyie Lake Access, which is located in the Braunagel Road/Park Road area and designated as an Electoral Area C Park.
The area has been recognized as parkland since 1902 and was formally designated an RDEK park under the Regional Parks Plan in 2024.
The foreshore along Moyie Lake is provincial Crown land, and the construction of private docks requires authorization from the Province.
Unauthorized docks are considered a form of trespass and subject to removal.
