A ban on Category 3 open fires will take effect at 1:00 p.m. MT on Friday, May 30, 2025, across the Southeast Fire Centre, including the Rocky Mountain and Selkirk Natural Resource Districts.
The ban includes:

Fires with 3+ piles burning at once

Large piles over 2m high or 3m wide

Windrows
-
Grass or stubble burns over 0.2 hectares

Use of air curtain burners and carbonizers
The ban applies to public and some private lands, including parks, recreation sites, and the Villages of Slocan and Silverton.
It remains in place until October 30, 2025, unless lifted earlier.
Category 1 campfires and Category 2 fires are not affected.
Violations may result in fines up to $100,000, jail time, and cost recovery for fire suppression.
