The B.C. government says income and disability assistance payments will be delivered on time, even if Canada Post workers strike later this week.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has issued a 72-hour strike notice strike notice, with potential job action beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday, May 23.
In response, the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction is putting payment plans in place.
About 88 per cent of clients receive payments by direct deposit, which will not be affected.
Cheques usually sent by mail will instead be available for pickup at ministry or Service BC offices.
Alternative arrangements can be made by contacting the ministry.
Those not registered for direct deposit are encouraged to sign up online at MySelfServe.gov.bc.ca, by phone at 1-866-866-0800, or in person.
