Although it wasn’t a unanimous decision, the City of Fernie has adopted its 2025 tax rates at the latest Council meeting on Tuesday, May 13.
The bylaw would introduce an overall 7.46 per cent bump in levies– a roughly $212.04 increase for the average single-family home in Fernie.

According to the 2025 Draft Budget Plan in February, the City faced a preliminary shortfall of over $704,000. The approved increase would now raise enough municipal taxes to cover that shortfall, as well as $135,000 in new construction taxes.
The City has a number of major capital projects in the queue this year, including a fire hall replacement project and renewal of the existing wastewater treatment system.
Tax notices should go out shortly. Last year, they were sent out in late May.
