Seven skilled trades student from the College of the Rockies in Cranbrook displayed their talents at a Skills Canada BC Provincial competition in Abbotsford last month (April 16).
COTR says these annual competitions “give students a platform to demonstrate their abilities,” while promoting careers in the industry, by “engaging visiting students in hands-on try-a-trade activities and career exploration.”
This year, COTR’s team was spread between all four different trades:
- Welding: Carter Thistle, Eli Volp
- Electrical: Georgia Jones, Aiden Morrison
- Carpentry: Megan Downie
- Heavy Vehicle Equipment Technology: Cody Pearson, Malcolm Phelps
One of the seven, Cody Pearson, took home a silver medal in Heavy Vehicle Equipment Technology; “a notable achievement for both him and the College’s program.”
According to COTR Dean of Trades and Technology, Ranjan Bhattacharya, all seven students “performed admirably” in competitions, representing “the College with professionalism and skill – a testament to the quality of our programs and the dedication of our instructors.”
