May is Invasive Species Month in BC.
The province and the Invasive Species Council of BC are trying to raise awareness by encouraging residents to take “small, simple steps to help stop the spread of invasive species.”
This year’s theme is “small actions, big impact” as your hiking boots, garden, or gold fish could be harming BC’s biodiversity.
Now each week, a new topic will be covered to educate residents on how to stop the spread of invasive species, with free webinars available online.
A list of tips was also shared by the Council:
- Plant native or non-invasive species with the Grow Me Instead guide
- Clean boots, bikes and pet fur before and after your adventures
- Never release pets like turtles, rabbits or goldfish into the wild
- Clean, drain and dry boats and gear after time on the water
