Cranbrook RCMP say they have received numerous reports of theft and vandalism to a significant number of campaign signs in the community.
Mounties say the reports come from various locations across Cranbrook and are not limited to any one specific candidate or political party. Police remind residents that defacing, altering or stealing a campaign sign is not only an offense under the Canada Elections Act but can also be considered an act of mischief, or various other offenses chargeable under the Criminal Code of Canada.
While there are no indications specific individuals are being targeted, Cranbrook RCMP would like to remind the public to express their political views in the voting booth and not resort to acts of vandalism.
Mounties further note that complaints about the destruction, theft or vandalism of elections signs should also be directed to the Commissioner of Canada Elections, and reported to the Cranbrook RCMP non-emergency line.
