1) Why are you running to be a Member of Parliament?
This isn’t my first time in politics, I’ve been working with both provincial and federal Greens for ten years over election cycles. I put my hat in the ring this time, because I know how hard the people around here work. We are Begging for more and getting crumbs back and that should enrage us all. We deserve more from our MP and more from the government.
The Green party has always put people and communities first. I joined this party because I know it’s the best place for me to deliver real solutions with cross-party support that we can all be pleased about. Being Green means I’m not subject to party whipping like everyone else, it means I get to vote the way my communities want, not the way big politicians tell me to.
2) Why should people vote for you, and what skills do you have that make you suitable for this role?
This election cycle brought something beautiful up. It brought unity across party lines, my colleagues from the other parties and myself are all wonderful people who care deeply about fixing the issues we have here. But at the end of the day, most of them will be under the thumb of Poilievre, Singh or Carney. I want to represent Columbia-Kootenay-Southern Rockies 1st and foremost, and my party 2nd. Outside of politics, I’ve made a career out of serving my local community by being a manager at a local business and part-time yoga instructor. Speaking to groups and guiding people through things is part of my regular workday. Taking these skills into the political realm felt like a natural path for myself.
3) What will you advocate for; and do you intend to fully toe the party line?
My priority above all is to represent the people of Columbia-Kootenay-Southern Rockies, and my party 2nd; I’ll toe the party line as long as it reflects the needs and desires of the community.
I have been and will continue to be a strong advocate for electoral reform, animal protections, workers’/unions’ rights and non-violent resolutions. I’m not the kind of person who changes values once they arrive in Ottawa, I care a lot and won’t stop till things are fixed.
4) How do you believe Canada’s federal government should tackle its current predicament with the United States, and where do you sit on Canadian sovereignty?
Our government has allowed us to be sitting ducks on the global stage. Woefully underprepared and tragically caught off guard.
Our government needs to develop new trading partners we can trust. Past conservative leaders like Erin O’Toole have mentioned CANZUCK as an alternative option. Something I’m very much open to talking about more, but if not CANZUCK, then another series of like-minded smaller nations could also be an option for us. Outside of our obvious trade disputes, we have also allowed our Arctic to sit open while other nations egotistically stake claim over it. Our government needs to stop funding and supplying wars abroad and return those resources and tools to Canadians so that we can build up a better defence for ourselves. It’s our natural instinct as Canadians to help others, but we don’t need to contribute to violence to help. Non-lethal aid and consistent pushing toward peaceful, non-violent resolutions.
