The City of Kimberley is taking another shot at conducting a prescribed burn this weekend, now that the skies have finally cleared up.
Kimbo Fire Department is teaming up with the Cranbrook Fire Zone to cover 20 hectares of land in the Levirs Avenue/Kimberley Nature Park area.
The initiative hopes to reduce wildfire hazards along the City’s west flank by targeting cured grass, branches, twigs, and litter from shrubs.
“Residents should expect smoke to be present during the day and overnight for several nights, depending on weather conditions,” said the City in a news release. “Access to trails in the area will be limited.”
Crews will be on-site for several days starting as early as Saturday, April 26, to put out burning material and limit smoke.
The burn was initially scheduled last weekend, but a test fire conducted on April 17 found conditions weren’t favourable enough to proceed then.
Questions or concerns can be sent to the Fire Department’s email at fire@kimberley.ca.
