According to council, this has been an ongoing issue since at least last summer, as staff “removed tables under the gazebo beside the children’s playground.”
In March, staff also removed the tables and chairs in the concourse area of Western Financial Place, “to help deter this unwanted congregation of people creating issues;” Free public Wi-Fi is also no longer offered.
The City has now contracted out security at a cost of $70,000 per year, and will be working with RCMP and School District 5 to “help get youth back in class.”
