A local man has sent Sparwood police down a wild foot chase after a car stop near the 100 block of Aspen Drive earlier this week.
On March 30 at 6:20 p.m., a patrolling Elk Valley RCMP member spotted a car known to possibly transport a local man wanted on several warrants in the area. The vehicle was then stopped near the Esso Gas station, where the officer recognized the wanted man in the passenger seat.
When the officer placed hands on him, the man pulled away and fled. Police caught up with him on Highway 43, but he managed to run away again.
A citizen tried to stop the subject at the intersection of Highway 43 and Aspen Drive by using his door. The man bounced off that door, ran down the steep slope just off the highway, then lost his footing – and both shoes – while cartwheeling toward the trailer park in the lower section of Aspen Drive.
As the man rolled down the hill, the officer asked a nearby driver to take him down to the bottom of the road. Other officers set up a containment zone, and the Police Dog Service team eventually arrived on site at around 8:00 p.m.
The dogs found the suspect under a flat deck trailer, though he still refused to present himself or show his hands. A police dog helped to take him safely into custody, where he was formally arrested and then taken to hospital for the injuries he caused himself during the arrest.
36-year-old Brady Shane Foy was remanded by consent the next day. He is set to appear in BC Provincial Court on Monday, April 7, on new charges related to breach of his conditions, resisting arrest and the outstanding warrants.
Elk Valley RCMP would like to identify and thank the two people who willingly involved themselves during Foy’s arrest and flight from police. If they or anyone with information about the incident wishes to provide a statement, they can contact the Elk Valley RCMP at 250-425-6233 and quote file 2025-851.
