The BC RCMP have provided an update on the Kaslo avalanche that killed three heli-skiers last Monday.
They say just prior to 1 p.m. that day, two groups of heli skiers had finished their runs on the bowl on the east side of Kootney Lake and were waiting in a staging area below the tree line of Clute Creek water shed.
A transport helicopter was nearing the group when the pilot observed an avalanche and though there was no audible siren, the pilot did issue an Avalanche Alert via radio.
RCMP say one group of skiers were able to run out of harms way, but sadly the other group of four were traped, with three passing away in the avalanche. The fourth person, a 44-year-old man from Nelson was critically injured.
