East Kootenay’s spring sunshine came out in full force on Wednesday (Mar. 26) –
Environment Canada has confirmed that Cranbrook hit a 19.3-degree daytime high, beating its decade-long record of 16.2 set in 2015.
The Sparwood area broke an even older record of its own. A new high of 19.4 was recorded at the Elk Valley weather station, up several points from the old benchmark of 14.5 set in 1992.
“A warm airmass over B.C. resulted in several record-breaking daily maximums on 26th March 2025,” said the agency in an update.
The airmass was felt in areas ranging from Chetwynd to Tofino, bringing those communities’ daily temperatures up by nearly 5 degrees since their last record.
