An unidentified 67-year-old man has died after being found Wednesday buried in snow at the Fernie Alpine Resort.
RCMP say the man was discovered in a natural terrain trap, rescued, and transported hospital by BC Ambulance to hospital.
Despite efforts by the mountain’s ski patrol and paramedics, and the use of an AED, he passed away once taken off life support at hospital; his family by his side.
Early indications are poor visibility might have led to the skier ending up where he did, including having a naturally occurring sink hole 20 feet by 30 feet wide, eventually ‘cave in’ around him.
The RCMP and BC Coroners Service continue to investigate.
