BC’s Education Minister announced Tuesday the construction of a new elementary school in Fernie.
The facility will house about 300 students from kindergarten to grade 7.
The cost: about $33 Million and includes an additional $200,000 from the Southeast Kootenay School District.
Part of the new building will also feature an Indigenous Education Space And Warming Kitchen.
School District 6 Chair Doug McPhee says the investment addresses the growing population in the community and efforts of district staff.
The target date for opening is sometime in 2027.
