New statistics are out from the BC Coroners Service on the number of deaths believed to be linked to the toxic drug supply.
According to figures released Tuesday, there were four in the month of May for the East Kootenay region; one in June, bringing the regional figure to nine, so far this year.
The Kootenay-Boundary also recorded five deaths over a two-month period – three in May and two last month.
Province-wide, there were 181 suspected unregulated drug fatalities in May and 185 in June.
Translated, that’s still, on average, about six deaths per day in the province – just over three-quarters occurring inside a home and 19 percent somewhere outside.
Since January 1st, 1,158 lives in British Columbia have been lost to the tainted drugs.
