The Regional District of East Kootenay has come out with a new evacuation ORDER for 27 homes north of Fairmont Hot Springs.
The properties in the Crooked Tree/Madias Creek area includes those living on Kootenay No. 3 Road.
46 other properties in the Elkhorn area are under an evacuation ALERT as a result of the Madias Creek wildfire.
Besides a crew from the BC Wildfire Service, members of Columbia Valley Fire & Rescue were also called in to help.
An Emergency Support Services Reception Centre has now been established at the Columbia Valley Chamber of Commerce (651 Hwy 93/95 in Invermere) for those being displaced.
Even you do have a place to go to, you’re still required to check in with the ESS centre, so the regional district, family and friends know you’re safe and where you can be reached.
The akisq?nuk First Nation Council is also following suit with the regional district in issuing their own Evacuation ALERT for the entire reserve.
As of last night, the fire was still listed as out of control and 2.11 hectares in size and being deemed as human-caused.
