Some good news to report on Cranbrook’s housing front…
The provincial government announcing yesterday it’s bought the former Lazy Bear Lodge on Cranbrook Street North.
The plan is to create 30 new supportive housing spaces for older adults and at-risk seniors.
Rezoning and renovations of the former motel still need to happen before anyone can move in, though.
Also needed will be required sprinklers and a fire alarm panel.
Some of those currently being housed in the Travelodge will be transferred, once it opens.
Cranbrook’s mayor, meantime, is thankful that a plan to buy the motel, by the Province, has come to fruition.
Wayne Price points out, however, that many of those in the equation are there through no fault of their own…
Community Connections Society of Southeast BC is being tasked with the overseeing the new operation.
The target date for opening is sometime next year.
