The host Kimberley Dynamiters picked up their first win at the Mowat Cup Friday night blanking the Saanich Predators 4-0 in their second game of the tournament.
Riley Langille led the Nitros with two goals on the night, scoring both in the second period, after a scoreless opening frame.
“The coach said just to trust the process (during the first intermission) and keep on grinding down. The boys believed in each other and we kept on going,“ said the product from Perth, Australia.
The win evens Kimberley`s record at 1-1, ahead of their final round-robin game against their KIJHL rivals, the Revelstoke Grizzlies, at 7pm tonight.
Head coach Derek Stuart was impressed with his team`s performance after a slow start, calming them down between the two opening periods.
“I basically told them we`re not out here to try and get ten goals…we just need to win the game,“ said Stuart, after the shutout decision.
“That first goal was huge relief and a huge weight off our shoulders.“
Ryder Ponto earned the shutout in goal for the Dynamiters.
