Police in the Elk Valley say one person was hospitalized following a vehicle collision south of Sparwood Sunday.
RCMP responded to the incident around 2:00 p.m., witnesses say a Honda Civic was off the road, and 3 people linked to the vehicle as well as witnesses were helping the driver and passengers.
Police say the driver was showing signs of impairment, they provided a breath sample which was over the legal limit.
A passenger was removed from the Honda and sustained serious injuries, the person was brought to Foothills Hospital in Calgary.
An investigation is ongoing.

On March 17 2024 at approximately 2:00 PM, Elk Valley Regional RCMP were advised by BC Ambulance of a single vehicle accident about 3 kilometers south of Sparwood BC. Officers attended and located a grey Honda Civic off road and three people associated to the vehicle as well as other witnesses helping the driver and passengers. Witnesses identified the driver as a person outside the vehicle. The driver showed signs of impairment, so an impaired causing bodily harm investigation was initiated. The driver provided breath samples to a qualified technician at the Sparwood Detachment which exceeded the legal limit. BC Ambulance and Sparwood Fire Department continued to assist the other passengers, one of which was trapped in the vehicle with significant injuries. This person was airlifted to Calgary Foothills hospital for further treatment. Once safe, the driver and other passenger were released on their own recognizance. The vehicle involved was towed back to the Sparwood Detachment for further investigation.
