Cranbrook residents will be getting new garbage carts for curbside collection.
The City of Cranbrook plans to roll out the new carts in May, with the launch of automated curbside garbage collection beginning June 3.
Public Works project manager Katelyn Pocha says each home will get a 240 litre collection cart, though smaller carts will be available upon request.
Each curbside collection cart will come with an information kit which will include a collection schedule, advice on how to place your cart for collection and contact information for missed collections.
Further updates on Cranbrook’s automated garbage collection program are expected in April.

Curbside garbage carts are set to be delivered to residents around the City starting in early May 2024, ahead of the launch of automated curbside garbage collection on Monday, June 3, 2024.
Administration provided an update on the incoming waste collection program to Council at their regular meeting Monday night.
By default, each household will be provided with one, 240 litre collection cart – the same size as your existing blue curbside recycling cart. For those residents who have challenges maneuvering a 240-litre bin, or simply prefer a smaller cart, a 120-litre bin is available on request.
Requests for the smaller bin must be made through the City’s 311 app or by calling the City at 311. The deadline to make request is Thursday, March 14, 2024, so the right number of carts can be ordered.
“Each curbside garbage cart will come with an information kit that will include a garbage schedule, how to properly place your cart out for collection, and contact information for any missed garbage pickup,” says Katelyn Pocha, Project Manager with the City of Cranbrook. “This is the same process we followed when we launched our curbside recycling program back in 2021.”
Further updates around the automated garbage collection program will be coming to the City’s website in early April 2024, with a full promotional and public education campaign set to begin mid-April 2024.
