Elk Valley RCMP are investigating a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 3 and Boardman Road Thursday in the West Fernie area.
Police say a westbound transport truck crossed center and struck another commercial vehicle and a passenger vehicle, the passenger vehicle was forced off the road and came to a rest in the Elk River.
The driver of the passenger vehicle was extracted by Fernie Fire Rescue and brought to hospital for hypothermia and other injuries.
RCMP are thanking all first responders who attended the collision.

On February 22nd, 2024 the Elk Valley RCMP responded to a serious multi-vehicle collision on Hwy 3 at Boardman Rd, in the area of West Fernie. Upon arriving on scene members learned that a westbound commercial vehicle-transport truck crossed the center line struck two east bound vehicles, including another commercial vehicle, as well as a passenger vehicle. The passenger vehicle was forced off the road and came to a rest in the Elk River in an area with swift and deep water. Fernie Fire Rescue attended and safely extracted the male driver of the passenger vehicle, who was taken to hospital for hypothermia as well as other injuries. The matter remains under investigation. The Elk Valley RCMP would like to thank all first responders who attended the collision.
