The Rocky Mountain School District has issued a statement with regards to a teacher at an Invermere high school being approved for charges by the BC Prosecution Service.
School District 6 acting superintendent Steve Wyre says they have been aware of the situation and the teacher has been on leave.
“The district has been aware of this developing situation for some time,” says Wyre. “Since the time the district has become aware, the teacher has been on leave. The District is fully cooperating with RCMP to the extent that we can, and we’ll continue to monitor that situation and their investigation.”
As the investigation is ongoing, SD6 is unable to share details of the incident.
Police announced February 13 that charges for three offenses were approved against David Thompson Secondary School teacher Jason Walker following an investigation into inappropriate communication with a student.
The school district says it’s committed to respecting the legal process while focusing on its priority to provide safe learning environments for its students.

Good morning parents and caregivers,
Late yesterday afternoon, Rocky Mountain School District No. 6 learned that charges had been approved against a teacher by the BC Prosecution Service.
We know this news is very unsettling for our entire school community. The District has been aware of this situation and since the teacher’s arrest, they have been on leave. The District cannot share details of this incident. We assure you that we are cooperating fully with the RCMP in their investigation. We are responding to the serious allegations and working closely with school administration to provide whatever additional support that may be required at the school. The District is committed to respecting the legal process while focusing on our priority to provide safe learning environments for students.
Sincerely,
