New upgrades to Fernie’s Isabella Dicken Elementary will be a major benefit to both staff and students at the school.
This from School District 5’s Director of Student Learning & Indigenous Education Jason Tichauer, as upgrades to the school were completed over the summer in time for the start of a new school year.
$8.3 million was invested into an expansion of Isabella Dicken Elementary School in Fernie, with $7.8 million coming from the BC Government and $500,000 contributed by SD5.
The 80-seat addition to the school includes four kindergarten classrooms, a media technology room, a special education room and a multipurpose room.
Tichauer says the new investment into Isabella Dicken Elementary has been in the works for a number of years and will have a significant impact on education in the Elk Valley.
He adds that Fernie is the fastest growing community in SD5’s coverage area.
