Fires throughout the East Kootenay were much more active yesterday with high heat and dry conditions.
BC Wildfire Service says the dry conditions proved to be a challenge around the Horsethief Creek fire near Invermere, now measuring at 1,975 hectares.
This resulted in large columns of smoke that are visible from nearby communities, which will likely continue throughout the week.
Wildfire officials say Warmer than average temperatures, low humidity and clear skies are going to result in increased fire behaviour for the time being.
More details on the wildfire near Invermere can be found here.
Elsewhere, the Yearling Creek fire near Radium is now at 1,749 hectares.
You can find more details about ongoing efforts to contain that wildfire here.
The Mia Creek fire northeast of Canal Flats remains at 881 hectares.
The Lladnar Creek fire near Sparwood also saw no increase and is at 431 hectares.
There’s also the Kamma Creek wildfire west of Moyie and 37 kilometres southwest of Cranbrook. Its currently at 290 hectares.
Wildfire officials say the Kamma Creek blaze is burning in a remote area and not threatening any structures or communities at this time.
