Major increases in size were reported Tuesday as the BC Wildfire Service continues to respond to blazes in the Columbia Valley and Elk Valley.
The Horsethief Creek fire west of Invermere is now up to 966 hectares.
Fire activity increased late Tuesday afternoon with wind gusts up to 60 kilometres as hour.
The increase is size happened in a northwest direction, away from communities, infrastructure and properties.
Wildfire personnel also reported an increase in the Lladnar Creek wildfire, which is now measured at 308 hectares.
Gusting winds played a role in the increase, pushing the fire downslope.
Structure protection crews are staying with the blaze overnight to continue to monitor growth.
