BC Hydro has issued a warning that the St Mary’s River Wildfire could impact the power supply for Columbia Valley communities.
The utility company says the growing wildfire poses a risk to the transmission line between Cranbrook and Invermere.
Should that line be damaged, BC Hydro won’t have enough capacity to meet the electricity needs of customers in Invermere, Golden, Radium Hot Springs and Spillamacheen.
BC Hydro is asking customers in these areas to prepare for possible power outages.
Should a power outage occur, BC Hydro’s priority will be to continue to power essential services such as hospitals, fire halls and police stations.
