Cranbrook City Council is moving into their new digs.
At Monday night’s meeting, city council voted to move their future meetings back to their newly renovated council chambers at City Hall.
Mayor Wayne Price thanked Cranbrook Public Library staff for allowing them to use the Manual Training School building as temporary chambers while the work was completed over the past 13 months.
“It’s been an inconvenience certainly for the library board and the library themselves, they haven’t used the room for other events and stuff,” says Price. “There are a number of events that do occur here every year but we really do appreciate that. I’ve been in to the renovated council chambers a number of times the last few weeks and it’s going to be very nice.”
Price praised the renovated chambers for their improved sound quality.
“Going forward I think that it’s a 50-1o0 year type of life in the building, it’s renovated so it’s new, but they did bring the aspects of the old building back,” he says. “There was a high ceiling there that’d been hidden for probably 50 years maybe 70 years. So they brought some of the old features back that had been hiding for all these years. Yeah, I’m very very happy.”
The chambers will be open to the public May 29.
