Amplify East Kootenay is shining a spotlight on local businesses for 2023.
Today, we look at Kootenay Grounds Cafe and Bookstore in Cranbrook.
Why have our listeners nominated this business? – “This cafe provides a warm and friendly place to meet up with friends or co-workers in downtown Cranbrook. The original owner, Candace, had a great vision when she created this cafe with it’s books and funky design (a bike is incorporated into a table – such a unique feature!)”
How do listeners feel this business has amplified the community? – “The atmosphere is cozy and it draws many downtown business people in for a great coffee & treats to eat! The staff is willing to serve you immediately. It never fails that you’ll bump into any number of locals here which provides networking opportunities while you grab a coffee. Every time I go in, it makes me happy. Candace created a warm and inviting atmosphere complete with a chalk board sign out front with quirky messages that bring a smile to my face every time! Kootenay Grounds spreads joy through the community and that is important in a time when there is less and less to be joyful about!”
Kootenay Grounds Cafe and Bookstore in Cranbrook is a local cafe that showcases homemade baking and the products of other regional businesses for sale.
Owner Hailee McKinnon took over the cafe in July last year from Candice Pickering, who started Kootenay Grounds back in 2019.
McKinnon says they have a very personable staff that connects well with customers.
“We have a very cozy and comfortable atmosphere, you can sit down and read a book,” McKinnon says. “We serve homemade goods, most of our recipes are home recipes. I mean, what’s better than grandma’s baking?”
McKinnon says they try to bring in a lot of items from local businesses to stock their cafe and bookstore.
“We have Homestead Candle Co, they are soy candles. The Goats and Hoes Soap, they’re goats-milk soap,” McKinnon says. “All of our mugs, they’re made in Crowsnest Pass with the company Muddy Mouth. We have some local author’s books and everything here.”
Kootenay Grounds Cafe and Bookstore is located at 24-11 Avenue South in Cranbrook.
