The Golden Rockets got a 3-2 overtime victory over the Kimberley Dynamiters Saturday night.
Kimberley had an early lead in Saturday’s game, with Jayden Kostiuk and Campbell Mclean scoring the first two goals before Golden began their comeback with a goal from Austin Angus in the second period.
Kylow Monkman scored Golden’s second goal with 5:28 left on the clock in the third period.
Neither team could break the deadlock, leading to an overtime showdown between the two teams.
Golden’s Dominic Fiorentino scored the game winner 2:38 into overtime, giving the Rockets a 3-2 overtime victory.
Kimberley Head Coach Derek Stuart was disappointed with Saturday night’s results.
“”It was an unfortunate end, but we should have put that game away long before that,” Stuart says. “We had over ten Grade A scoring chances and probably could have had ten goals if we did, but we just didn’t score tonight.”
Golden Head Coach Chuck Wight says the Rockets pulled off a needed win at the Civic Centre.
“It was very exciting, it was great to see the comeback effort,” Wight says. “I think that’s the key to playoff hockey. You just never quit and our team showed that tonight. We used the momentum from the goal in the third period to keep going forward with it.”
The Rocket’s win evens up this first round KIJHL playoff series at 1-1, with the scene now shifting to Golden for Game 3 on Tuesday night.
