The Kootenay region’s unemployment rate saw a slight increase to start 2023.
The latest unemployment figures have been released by Statistics Canada, with the regional rate in the Kootenays at 3.5 percent in January.
That’s slightly up from the 2.9 percent rate reported in December of last year.
A total of 2,900 people were reported out of work in the Kootenays last month.
January’s unemployment rate nationally was at five percent with 150,000 jobs added.
The national rate hovers just above the country’s record low of 4.9 per cent.
