The BC government is giving you a chance to learn about what is happening with ongoing discussions between Canada and the US to modernize the Columbia River Treaty.
Canadian negotiators are are exploring ways to operate dams along the Columbia River to support domestic objectives tof ecosystems, Indigenous cultural values and socio-economic interests.
The Canadian representatives include local politicians and Indigenous nations located near the Columbia River, including the Ktunaxa Nation.
The Columbia River Treaty was signed by Canada and the US in 1964 as a means to set guidelines for hydro-electricity generation and flood control for communities near the Columbia River in both countries.
