Cranbrook Community Theatre Society finished its latest round of renovations in 2022.
The second year of the Theatre Proper Project used funds from the Community Economic Resiliency Infrastructure program which was granted to the theatre in 2021.
Society president Peter Schalk says this included upgrading the Studio & Stage Door building’s back door entrance and loading bay, replacing windows and doors and paving a concrete walkway for the Bud’s Bench project.
“We re-landscaped the whole property, we added some concert sidewalks, and put in undergrounds sprinklers, and of course, we prepared the bed for the Bud’s bench,” Schalk says. “So that was the outside project and that was completed in September some time last year.”
Schalk says there are some areas of the over 100 year old building the society would like to see improved in 2023.
“We still have one major part of the building that we’d like to tackle, the green room and the studio itself,” he says. “We’ll see what happens. When funds become available we won’t be shy in asking for a share of those funds.”
Upgrades in the project’s first year included a major renovation of the theatre’s stage, seating area and control booth.
