A head coach at a boxing club in Cranbrook was brought home some hardware from the provincial championships last month.
Cranbrook Eagles Boxing Club’s Tom White was named Official of the Year by BC Boxing.
White’s history with the club started in 1988, he took over the group in 2002.
“I boxed out of Prince George for a while then made my way back here in 2002 and took over the club,” White says. “A few years later Bill Watson joined me and now we have a long standing record of being the second largest club in British Columbia and we’re a non-profit organization so nobody takes a wage from it. It’s a pretty cool thing to be a apart of.”
He says the award came as a complete surprise.
“You’re not in it for the recognition but it’s definitely nice and touching,” he says. “I’m honored to receive it and I think we’re just a bunch of old boxers that don’t want to see the club die and go away. It’s a great place, it’s a nice little family down there, it’s just a really cool thing to be a part of.”
White was recognized with club members Alexa Hansen and Jaxson Chisholm who were recognized as best junior female and male boxers for 2022.
