The living wage across BC continues to rise, as costs for food and shelter increase in communities across the province.
This from Living Wage for Families BC, who have released living wage calculations for 22 BC communities at the same time this year.
The report shows Cranbrook’s living wage is at $21.90 an hour, while Fernie’s hit $23.58.
In the Columbia Valley, the living wage is reported at $21.85 an hour, while Golden hit $25.56 an hour, the highest reported locally (East Kootenay and Columbia Valley).
The living wage is the hourly wage that two parents working full-time need to earn to support a family of four.
This year’s increase is based on general inflation shooting to a 40 year high, increasing food costs and rent.
