Mark Doherty officially named new Mayor-Elect of Canal Flats.

The Village of Canal Flats officially has their new Mayor-elect.

This after Mark Doherty and Doug McCutcheon both received 158 votes in the municipal election, resulting in a tie in the mayoral race.

The matter led to a judicial recount for the mayoral race, heard Monday, October 24 at the provincial courthouse in Invermere.

Both candidates were in attendance, but all parties agreed another recount of the ballots was not required.

A drawing of lots was held, with the Provincial Court Judge pulling Mark Doherty’s name from a box.
