Elkford’s BMXers and skateboarders have a new place to ride.
The new Elkford Bike Park had it’s grand opening Tuesday following two years of planning and construction.
Elkford Biking Club President Jason Meldrum says he was impressed how quickly his idea for the park became a reality.
“The first article about us ran August 27, 2020 in the newspaper, and August 27, 2022 at six in the morning, the first group of contractors pulled out,” says Meldrum. “After they left there was literally only two days to do the pavement, and we were all done! All finished!”
Meldrum says the project is one of the last to be completed by the District of Elkford’s previous mayor and council.
“I have to admit every single councillor, it’s not all the time that they all agree on something, but this bike park was one thing that every single one of them agreed on,” Meldrum says. “I never heard any bad words or anything, everybody was just full support from the get go.”
The fully paved park includes jumps and obstacles for riders of different levels, while maintaining the natural beauty of the nearby Boivin Creek.
