Canal Flats residents still have to wait awhile to find out who is the village’s next mayor, but results from the plebiscite from Saturday’s election are finally in.
The non-binding poll question asked residents if the Village should consider building a new community hall, 177 residents voted yes while 133 voiced opposition to the proposal.
The Village may use results from the plebiscite to help with planning and budgeting for a new community hall if council decides to move ahead with the project in the future.
Meanwhile, chief election officer Sylvie Hoobanoff says a judicial recount in Provincial Court is required within 13 days of the election date to solve the deadlock in the Canal Flats mayoral race.
Saturday’s election resulted in both Canal Flats mayoral candidates receiving 158 votes, resulting in a tie.
