A long-time member of Elkford District Council is hoping to be elected as the District’s Mayor.
After serving with Elkford Council for a decade, Steve Fairbairn is turning his attention to the mayoral race.
The three-term councilor feels his experience with the District would serve him well if elected Mayor.
“I feel that you have a responsibility. If you serve long enough and you acquire the knowledge and the history, then you owe it to the organization, you owe it to the District to move up the ladder and utilize that skill set,” Fairbairn says.
Fairbairn first moved to the District in 1990 and wants to continue to focus on developing the District’s economy while attracting young families to town.
“I want to see Elkford be a place for young families to move to, to live, to have kids in our school system, to have families volunteering and taking part in our various non-profits. That’s a key thing,” Fairbairn says.
Fairbairn also sits on the board of the East Kootenay Community Credit Union. You can learn more about Fairbairn and his campaign on his Facebook page.
The Municipal Election is set for October 15.
