A Fernie resident is hoping to represent his community on city council following next month’s municipal election.
Harsh Ramadass says Fernie has been home for him and his family for twelve years, he has experience with Teck and has worked in the public sector for seventeen years.
He says his work experience in leadership roles would bring a valuable skillset to the council table.
“I’ve been in private sector all my career, seventeen years,” says Ramadass. “[In] most cases, business improvement roles. Basically, figuring out productivity improvements and cost reduction for all the companies that I work with. What I believe is I can produce the same kind of leadership and business experience while improving outcomes to collaborations with stakeholders.”
Ramadass says there are a lot of issues for city council to address in the upcoming term, particularly with finding affordable housing solutions and fostering better communication between residents and City Hall.
“Obviously the housing and affordability is a cause for concern for a lot of people,” Ramadass says. “My answer to that is there are ways the City can play a leadership role. That’s where the biggest opportunity for improvement is.”
The municipal election happens October 15.
