Another lake in the East Kootenay has been surveyed through a program by Living Lakes Canada.
The Foreshore Inventory Management Planning Program has been running for four years to help inform policies and management practices to protect critical lake habitats and climates within local lakes.
The latest lake in the region to be included in the program is the St Mary’s Lake outside of Kimberley, based on development pressures and stakeholder interested and for the presence of the Westslope Cutthroat Trout.
Some of the other lakes surveyed through the four year project include Kootenay Lake, Columbia Lake and Moyie Lake.
The results from the surveys are being used to inform changes to lake shoreline management decisions and policies throughout the region.
