A Kimberley resident is hoping second time’s a charm as he prepares for another bid to join city council.
Local entrepreneur and community volunteer Steven Royer is running for Kimberley City Council in October’s municipal election, he also ran in the 2018 election but was not voted to council.
Royer says housing affordability is an issue which city council needs to address in its next term.
“Housing is a really big one right now in Kimberley,” says Royer. “Twenty-five hundred dollars to rent a house, that’s outrageous. When I first moved here I only paid eight hundred a month, people making twenty-dollars an hour will not be able to make ends meet.”
He’s held various roles with the Mark Creek Lions Club since moving to Kimberley, he says the community means everything to him.
“Being a Mark Creek Lions Club member, it means a lot to me to give back to the community in ways that I otherwise couldn’t do it,” Royer says. “Kimberley means everything to me, they [the community] have been so kind to me, with my business they’ve supported me from day one.”
The municipal election is happening October 15.
