Cranbrook’s annual party in the parking lot to support Cops for Kids is happening Saturday, August 13.
You can support children in need by taking in food, drinks, live music and activities while the cops ‘arrest’ somebody you know as part of the Jail n’ Bail event.
Max’s Place owner Lisa Barnes will be participating in her third charity bike ride ride with Cops for Kids in September, starting in Kelowna and passing through the East Kootenay.
“We’ve got thirty riders this week, and each rider needs to raise a minimum of $25,000,” says Barnes. “And all of that money goes back to supporting kids within the Southeast District. Kids that have suffered medical or mental trauma. We do a lot of support, especially here in the Kootenays for, families that need to travel for medical assistance.”
Barnes hopes to see plenty of familiar faces at this weekend’s fundraiser.
“Throughout the ride we stopped in communities and are able to support some families with tablet computers for kids that have autism or learning disabilities and aren’t able to afford items like that on their own,” she says. “It’s a really emotional ride and it’s really neat to meet all of the families and supporters that are out there and all part of this cause.”
The party kicks off Saturday at Tamarack Mall from 12:00 pm to 4:30 pm, the bike ride begins ride in Kelowna September 9.
