Kootenay Savings Credit Union is allocating over $123,000 worth of grants to 25 community organizations.
Six organizations are from the East Kootenay, including Kimberley Public Library the Lake Windermere Districts Lion Club, and the Spark Society for Youth.
Community Liaison Aaron Burke says Kimberley Gymnastics club has received $5,000 to help with rebuilding their gym.
“I’m sure most people know [the gym] had a real unfortunate fire last year,” Burke says. “That one was a real important one for us too, because that ones a hub for childcare in Kimberley too, so that’s a real vital facility for the community. So, it’s important for us to get on there.”
Burke adds $2,000 has gone to Summit Community Services Society, a men’s counselling group from Cranbrook.
“We don’t see a lot of asks come in specific for mental health for males,” he says. “We’ve seen through the pandemic that the need to take care of our mental health for everyone. So, it was really important for us to support a few of those mental health initiatives that we saw come through in the applications.”
