Cranbrook’s Operation Street Angel is receiving a donation from Fire Hall Kitchen & Tap.
Staff at the local restaurant donated 100% of their tips earned on Canada Day to the local non profit, and the owners donated $5 for every poutine sold that day.
In total the Fire Hall donated $3400 to help assist Indigenous communities that are struggling with poverty issues.
Front of house manager Tara Boyle says this year’s donation exceeded how much she raised in Canmore through a similar initiative last year.
“I didn’t think that anybody would jump on but it didn’t take any convincing whatsoever, so I was really blow away by just the support everybody showed,” Boyle says. “It’s just something that I personally do and I just put it out there just to see what would happen and everybody was on board! It was great! Everyone was happy to do it.”
She is thanking everyone for their support.
“I had people coming in, not even buying anything, just you know, handing me a $20, tipping 100% of their bill or just buying a poutine and not actually taking it with them, just kind of giving it to whoever,” she says. “That kind of stuff was really nice to see, just totally selfless of them and that’s exactly what charity is supposed to be.”
Boyle chose Operation Street Angel to receive the donation for it’s close proximity and good standing with the community.
