A new housing project could be coming to Cranbrook.
Wildstone Heights Property Corp wants to build up to 582 mixed-use housing units along Echo Field Road.
Bylaw amendments for the project were given a second reading from Cranbrook City Council on Monday night.
Council voted in favor of the project, though Councilor Ron Popoff questions if the location is the right place for a high density project.
“We’ll see where the public hearing goes, maybe staff have some recommendations about why we need a high density apartment complex on the edge of town right now,” Popoff says. “That will be a question I will be looking at seriously as we move forward.”
Mayor Lee Pratt says a public hearing about the project will be held June 13th, despite consideration from council to skip the hearing to expedite the project.
“There is some information forthcoming from the staff and we basically give them the directive that let’s us try to get the information before the next meeting and the public hearing on June 13th,” Pratt says. “But I think it in all fairness to the public, the residents that live in the area and also the developer that we expedite it as quick as we can.”
