The Sedins had their day in the sun with the Vancouver Canucks, now the Cranbrook Bucks are introducing their own brand of “twin magic”.
The Bucks have announced twin brothers, Hudson, Massachusetts natives Donovan and Julian Frias have committed to the BCHL club’s 2022-23 roster.
The forwards spent last season with St. George’s School, a USHS prep program in Rhode Island – Donovan posted 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points in 25 games while Julian tallied 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points through 25 games.
Donovan looks forward to coming to Cranbrook.
“Most I’ve been able to do is look at some YouTube videos and look at some pictures, maybe I’ll get up there this summer and try to check it out before I go up there for real in August,” Frias says. Donavan expects to make an immediate impact on BCHL scoresheets. “Obviously, I think the goal is rookie of the year, win a couple of championships, lead the league in points. Why not?”
Julian is also excited to get to know Cranbrook’s fan base.
“Coach [Ryan] Donald reached out to us, it seemed like a good fit, he seemed like a great guy,” says Frias. “Everything kind of made sense for us, everything I hear about Cranbrook is great.” Julian says his game is similar to an old favorite from the Boston Bruins – East Vancouver’s Milan Lucic. “I think I’m best known for being a hard-working grinder down low, getting to the corners, getting pucks in, driving to the net hard, really good break ins/breakouts.”
The two forwards have committed to continue their lifelong ‘brothers act’ at the collegiate level with NCAA Division 1 program Yale University.

Cranbrook hockey fans will get to witness a bit of twin magic next season.
The Cranbrook Bucks (BCHL) are happy to announce that they have committed forwards, and twin brothers, Donovan and Julian Frias for the 2022-2023 season.
The Frias brothers played last season with St. George’s School in Newport, Rhode Island and with the South Shore Kings 18U AAA program. With St. George’s last season, Donovan posted 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points in 25 games while Julian tallied 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points through 25 games. The 2004-born forwards from Hudson, MA are also committed to play for NCAA Division 1 program Yale University.
Donovan looks forward to joining the Bucks “it [Cranbrook] looks like a great spot for me to develop into the best player I can,” Frias says. He describes himself as a big center with skill, he models his game after Charlie Coyle and Patrice Bergeron. He hopes to establish himself as an offensive presence in the BCHL, and he looks forward to meeting Cranbrook’s hockey fans.
Julian shares his brother’s optimism for joining the Bucks. He describes himself as a hard-working grinder, not unlike Milan Lucic. “Coach Donald reached out to us, it seems like a good fit and he seemed like a great guy,” says Frias. “Everything I hear about Cranbrook is great, so I was really excited to get going.”
The Cranbrook Bucks wish to welcome Donovan and Julian to the organization and the City of Cranbrook.
