The City of Cranbrook has released concept designs for its downtown revitalization project.
The designs divide downtown into nine different area nodes including Gateway, Maker Village, Open Space, and the Core.
Mayor Lee Pratt says the City will hold public hearings to gather input from locals.
“I would really encourage the public to come out and see it, put their input into it,” Pratt says. “If they have some ideas, certainly share them with us. After we do that with the public hearings, they’ll go back and redevelop or redesign maybe somethings and then we’ll see it again. It’s a long process but when we do it, we want to make sure it’s done right.”
Pratt is impressed with the designs, but questions if downtown is suitable for residential mixed properties.
“The only one question, as I mentioned, was the height of the buildings,” he says. “If we’re going to have some downtown residential combined with some commercial, I think six storeys, which we have in place right now, is not enough.”
